Our Puppy, D.O.G.

So after having our puppy for a couple of months now, the verdict is still out on how Jeff and I feel about him.

The kids adore him, of course.

And he's IS cute and puppy-ish.

Even if he does torment Raisin something awful strut his stuff as the Alpha dog of the Frump pack.

Normally by now, folks like us would have felt a certain...endearment towards their puppy. For being adorably cute if nothing else.

Unfortunately this puppy hasn't done much to endear himself to us.

He's teethed on the hoses.

He's torn up the dog beds and tugs them out of the dog houses nearly every day.

He gets into the house every chance he can.

He's also grown bigger...much, MUCH bigger.

And if his paw size is any indicator, he won't be done growing for quite some time. (I'm thinking he may have Great Dane in his family line somewhere.)

As his owners, all we see when we look at him are dollar signs...swirling down the drain in alarming numbers.

We've also learned that he just isn't the sharpest tack in the pack as puppies go.

Case in point:

Here he is.

Frolicking and cavorting happily about in the yard.

The NEIGHBOR'S yard!

Then he spots me in our back yard.

"Ruh roh!" he thought, and made for the hole in the fence like The Poky Little Puppy.

Or maybe that would be The Prodigal Dog.

Raisin stood there self-righteously accusing him as he tried to squirm his way under the fence.

And as you can see...

...he didn't have the good grace to look one bit guilty for his misdeeds, even as the dust from his escapade still clung to his coat!

Yes, apparently worrying about youngsters inside my house getting out wasn't enough...now I have to worry about the one on the outside getting out, too.

What are we going to do with you, D.O.G.?

No doggie bonding? We had Sackett (a schnauzer) for 7 years. The boys adored him but GG and I never quite bonded with him. I cried buckets when our neighbor left the gate open and Sackett disappeared, but I think it was mostly because our boys were devastated.

Now we have Emily. She's a bigger dog than we wanted and from the pound. But she's a sweetheart and almost story book wonderful.

There's no moral to the story here. I guess I just wanted to note that different dogs come into your life just like people. Hope things get better with D.O.G.

Our second cat, Stuart, is like D.O.G. We should have KNOWN he was a little deficient in the IQ department when we first saw him. He was sleeping in his litter box.

But Alison was determined she was going to bring hom a kitty THAT DAY, and she's sort of regretted it ever since, because this bozo is really dumb. Very nice looking, however, but, like boyfriends who are gorgeous but not exactly bright, NOT really satisfactory. And poor Stuart has been unfortunate enough to get on the wrong side of Richard, so he really must feel the prejudice against him in this household, even as dull as he is. So he comes and sits behind me at the computer (because I give him love and attention) and literally hogs the whole chair eventually so I have to either give it up or make him get off. But I feel sorry for him, the poor little dummy. And Alison's choice of name doesn't help....it's so easy to say StuPID instead of Stuart! I'd say more but I've only got about an inch of chair left to sit on and, well, let's just say I need a bit more chair than that!

As my husband says...in for a penny, in for a pound. And he doesn't mean dog pound.

We are into the 4-digits with allergy dog; and lots of carpet cleaning with I-do-the-best-I-can-but-I'm-old dog.

Still...I won't be without one. I know that makes me stupid or something, but there is just nothing like them when they're at their best. May God swing the "at their best" pendulum DOG's (and your) way soon. :)

Cute post! The best thing we ever got for our golden retriever (who acts like a nut when she goes outside) is an invisible fence. Believe me, its worth the money and peace of mind. One shock was all it took to make that dog understand her boundaries and we've never had a problem since. The first time she howled like she was dying, but it did the trick. I don't worry that she will get hit by a car, knock over neighborhood bsbies, etc.

Blessings,

Of course, that was supposed to be "babies"!

I have never bonded to my cats, and I have less reason than your slow love for DOG.

My girls though, are beyond attached and I think, given the choice, would choose those kitties over me.

So I figure it balances out.

may you soon find much to love in him.

DOG is definitely beautiful!!! We had to give our dog up because let's just face it... we are not dog people! It just never worked out for us whenever we had a dog.

Hysterical about him trying to get back in your yard when he saw you!
