A Quiz For All You Austen Fans...

I *heart* Jane Austen.

I've read all her books (and even some of the more tastefully done spinoffs), and thought I'd seen all the movies that have been done that are remotely related to her writing, including the Bollywood version, Bride & Prejudice.

But I was wrong.

Last night (in the grocery store of all places) I happened upon a movie that had somehow escaped my attention.

I'm pretty sure it was density destiny, because as I looked up from checking my receipt, there across the aisle was the discount movie display.

And right there front and center of the display was a cover of a movie that appeared to be set in Regency England, which bore a familiar title.

It was the perfect 'marriage', really...BBC's version of Persuasion.

And it was really, really good.

With all the essential elements...great acting, perfect characterizations from the book, Regency England settings, and the same, wonderful, Austenesque endings you'd expect from, well, Jane Austen.

Made me want to brew a fresh pot of tea and whip up a batch of scones and everything.

Almost made me want to go ahead and stay up all night watching Pride & Prejudice with my boyfriendColin Firth as Mr. Darcy.

Almost.

He and I are kind of on the outs right now, his recent role in the big screen version of Mamma Mia having come between us.

How could you, Colin? After finally winning the heart of untold millions of female fans worldwidedearest, loveliest Elizabeth...how could you cross over and come out of the closet?

All I can say is that you'd better redeem yourself in The Accidental Husband or our relationship is over.

Ahem.

So, in light of that, and totally leap-blogging off of my friend Elizabeth's blog posting, I couldn't resist the following quiz:

So all you Jane Austen fans out there... which Austen heroine do you most resemble?

So, if YOU are Elizabeth Bennet, does that make ME Mrs Bennet? That loud, silly, foolishly vain and scheming MOTHER of dearest loveliest Elizabeth? The one whose voice (and I'm sorry about this Alison Steadman) rips the air with horrid timbre and hideously childish expressions, whimperings, crying, and wailings (although a perfect capture of the character)? The one who loudly COMPLAINS while she's "never complaining" and whose suffering is so generously shared with all in earshot, who wants her daughters married at any cost, even to tiresome, obsequious, grovelling palaverers who believe their suit is favorable because they are patronized by the likes of rude, bossy, interfering and self important class conscious viragos such as Lady Catherine de Bourgh? And who is married to a man who gets enjoyment from poking fun at and showcasing his wife's foibles and follies?

Is that who I am? Well, I have just one thing to say. "For what are we here but to make sport for our neighbors and laugh (loff) at them in our turn?"

I'm Marianne Dashwood. LOL! I would have never thought that, but when it showed why, it makes sense.

Isn't Persuasion good? I haven't seen it in so so long.

How dare COLIN? I thought he was mine? =( lol. I have two magnets at work that show my love and devotion for Mr. Firth aka Mr. Darcy, "Mrs. Darcy" and "I'd rather be at Pemberley".

Sigh. I think I'll go home and watch P&P.

I can't find your email! I wanted to reply to your totally awesome, heartfelt comment about my mom. But alas I shall respond here!!!

You wrote so much to help me and I'm so speechless and grateful that I can only give you a BIG THANKS! You're always there for me when I get low. Please know that you can always vent, rant, rave... whatever! Because I will always show you the same kindness you've shown me!!!

The only Jane Austen character I know of is Elizabeth Bennet (I sooooo want to watch P&P but Daniel never wants to!!!!).

I ended up scoring the same as Anne Elizabeth (we're seriously like kindred spirits---we have few differing tastes but everything else we BOTH love!!!).

I've got to brush up on my knowledge of Jane Austin characters. Been reading school textbooks so long with the occasional Harry Potter releases, that I am out of the loop. Now that school is over for me, I should be reading more books, but, instead I'm just blogging and blogsurfing more. Sigh.

I loved BBC's version of Persuasion! I've seen it a couple of times and just recently watched about half of it.. I know, how can I just watch half?! Well I was watching it online and the website only had half... ha ha ha. I have a good mind to go rent it now!

I'll take the quiz now.. if Deb is Marianne Dashwood, I'm probably Elenor Dashwood... or of course I could be Anne Elliot ... or lord have mercy I'll end up being Elizabeth's close friend Charlotte Lucas...

I guess I should take the quiz and put myself out of this misery... ha ha ha

Oh yeah, I took the quiz. And I wouldn't MIND being Elinor Dashwood if only she didn't have her character played by Emma Thompson. I like Emma Thompson, her acting is wonderful, but I think she's a little long in the tooth for Elinor's character, and I don't want to look like her! I'm Elinor as she was WRITTEN in the book, not as she was protrayed on the movie.

As if, by taking a quiz, I'm suddenly Elinor Dashwood or ANYBODY else but FRUMPGRAM!!!

In personality I think I'm actually more like Elizabeth Bennet. She loved absurdities and took a playful demeanor with the faults and foibles of others. She also had that teensy bit (how gentle we are on ourselves) of pride that elevated herself and her opinions above the scriptural standard at times, and I find myself doing this, too, oh wretched woman that I am! Thank God for His grace! (Besides, SHE got Mr Darcy AND Pemberly, the lucky little baggage!)

....sorry...you lost me after "Colin Firth"...LOL

I linked over from Karlie's (conservachick's) blog. I'm a huge Jane Austen fan and I didn't know there was a version of Persuasion out either. I'll have to keep my eye out for it.

Okay so we went to Target yesterday because I had some returns. I found Sense and Sensibility in their $5 shelf and I got it! Ha! I've never read it nor do I know what it is about. Kate Winslet's wig looks ridiculous on the cover, but I bought it to see what the fuss was about!

I love Pride and Prej so... here's to hoping it's another hit for my ever-growing Chick Flicks!

Sorry, Becky, I'm a bit behind on my blog reading. I am envious that you are Elizabeth Bennett!!! But I must repeat Conservachick's question: WHAT IS THIS BUSINESS ABOUT COLIN FIRTH AND A CLOSET???
