Oh, summer break how I love thee. Let me count the ways...
But first, I must touch on a couple end-of-the-school-year traditions in our family.
Like Judah getting to go to school with daddy on the last day.
Here's what he thought of that idea:

Of course he wasn't official without his "pack-ack" and his "yunch".
The lunch that probably would have been more apropo around Easter, but gets him to eat all kinds of things he might not normally bother with .

It's amazing how a novel little thing like a plastic camping 'egg carton' and leftover fillable Easter eggs can help even a picky child to eat good-for-them-foods. Nuts, dried fruit, sliced veggies, cheese, meats...when packed in this way I can be assured that he's going to at least give it a try because opening up each egg is such a treat.

What you can't see in these photos, however, is his daddy.
There is a reason for that.
You see...last year, he lost a friendly 'bet' with a co-worker over who would win the NBA basketball championships.

The loser had to cut his hair into a mohawk for the last day of school.
Not that I'm calling him a loser, you understand. I wouldn't mess with this guy.

This year, the same guy dared him to cut his hair into a "Polish" mohawk (his words and description, not ours) after winning the staff pick for employee of the year over Jeff.
Here Jeff is before making good on the dare, with all that thick dark hair

And here is some stranger that took over his body. You can see that Judah did not see the humor in things at all.

Where is my daddy and what have you done with him?!!
I tell you, every time I looked at him like this, it was a bit of a shock.
And then I would laugh about the whole goofy thing all over again.
Especially with the faces Jeff would make, like those of some downtrodden poor sap.

I must say, he was a very good sport.
He even got up to speak at a last-day-of-school teacher's meeting this way, and had the entire staff laughing at
While at work, he sent Pix messages to his mom and sister.
They freaked out.
Told him he looked like Bozo the Clown.
Couldn't believe he'd willingly done such a hideous thing.
And I, as vain as it may be, became convinced that (as far as his hair is concerned, anyway) it's all or nothing.
Is that wrong?
It's just that I could barely go this

It was SO not him.
And waking up beside him the next morning was nothing short of startling.
Yes, he insisted on keeping that hideous hair style for one more day. Startled himself a couple of times when he glanced at his reflection in the mirror, too.
By the next morning, however, the kids wanted normal Jeff back. This little charade had gone on long enough.
So, Saturday morning we buzzed it all off.

Ahhh, much better.

MY HEAVENLY STARS!!! I canNOT believe my eyes. Jeff, please don't make any more bets, I beg of you! The up close photo looks like that toy they made back in the 50's where you move metal shavings onto a bare face and head with a magnetic pencil. Our handsome Jeff, taken down so very very low. I'm not going to say you're a Delilah, but please tell me you're never going to give him a cut like that "Polish Mohawk" ever again! I agree with Judah, shaved completely bald is better by a long shot!
Oh, my dear Becky, I'm totally laughing out loud like an idiot right now! You know I have to start with Jeff, right? That is hillarious! But he really isn't much of a gambler if I may say so myself. At least it's a good lesson for the children! :0) He must have a wonderful sense of humor - which is a great thing! It's good to hear of other couples who share the same kind of relationship that me and Chris have. Once I botched up a haircut I was giving him and ended up having to shave him bald. No one at church recognized him when he first walked in. He was such a good sport about it.
The Easter egg lunch box is absolutely brilliant! Brilliant, I say! Where did you ever come up with such an ingenious solution? Judah is such a handsome little fellow.
Well, I hope you have a great rest of your weekend!
XO, Pam
I just had to add that I showed these photos to your youngest sister. She about quit breathing, she was laughing so hard. In fact, she is STILL laughing. She couldn't believe Jeff going out in public like that!
Oh, my goooodness.! What a good sport indeed. Both of you. Good sports. Guess Daddy has his summer haircut all in order. Darling yunch idea! I wish I could roll back time and do that with my 2. You need to write a kiddie cookbook.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!! We need to get our husbands together - it would be too much fun!! Oh, and great lunch idea!!
ROTFL! Or at least I felt like it. HA!
Hilariously funny. Jeff is a good sport!
Judah looks so cute with his plastic Easter lunhc pack. And he's one lucky kid, getting to go to school with Larry from the Three Stooges. lol
Oh my gosh! He is a good sport. I was thinking the same thing about the clown. LOL
I had no idea what a polish mohawk was, now I do. Sounds like he should stop betting.
THAT is HILARIOUS!!!! Jeff is a GREAT sport, probably because he knows his hair will grow back. He has a LOT of it!! He is follicly blessed! ;-) And I love your idea of snacks in the eggs! WhatEVER it takes to get our little ones to eat something decent for them. Little Bit isn't a veggie eater (neither am I, so it's hard to set a good example), but she'll drink that V8 Fusion stuff. Anything to create good habits.
I tagged ya! ;)
I love the idea of packing the lunch in eggs. I'll have to pass it on to my sister-in-law. Her 3 year old son is so picky. Maybe he would like something like that.
Your husband is great! I once gave my Matt a mowhawk, it lasted one day. He went to work and all of his co-workers accused him of losing a bet. He didn't, just thought it would be fun. Men have it so easy, they can do all kinds of silly things with their hair and just shave it off when they're done. Us girls have to be more careful.
I loved the comment you made on the Amish Love Stories. I feel like it was so well written it deserves a post of its own.
Oh my gosh, I can not stop laughing at that hairdo, especially in the back!!!
I have to post and tell you how hard i am laughing! Those hairdos turn Jeff into a completely different character!!!! I LOVE that he has the confidence to go to school like that just to be a goof! I'm sure you were glad to get your hubby back, but i bet there was lots of laughter at your house too!!
WOW! The mohawk wasn't bad at all but the Polish one?! LOL! He IS a good spot!
My hubby has a mohawk so I'm partial to those... so long as the hair is on TOP of the head, not the sides. Ha ha ha! Oh my, this post made my day!
