It's Almost Here!

The past few days have been unseasonably cold.

Kind of strange considering that just a week ago, birds were tearing apart the empty coconut liners in my hanging baskets for nesting purposes.

To cope, I've been cooped up inside doing a little of this

and some Goodwill hunting.

All of these things will be repurposed or made over except the tin in bottom of this photo. It was my $5 find. Filled with vintage buttons.

We've also attended a couple of birthday parties. Judah had never played pin the crown on the princess before.

I've also been getting a couple of things ready for the fair.

Even having grown up in Western Washington where it rains and rains and rains all winter long, I find that since I've grown accustomed to the more arid climate of the Southwestern U.S., I have a hard time readjusting when the winters here get gray and gloomy.

Blah. Blah, blah, blah.

In spite of everything keeping us busy these days, this afternoon I heard wonderful, hope-filled words when Judah popped his head in the back door shouting breathlessly, "Mama! Come quick! Da trees have white roses on dem!"

I ran for my trusty camera and followed him out back where we found that our almond trees were indeed in bloom.

He was so proud of his discovery. "Mama...take a 'pitcher' of me by 'em."

The plum tree was also blooming, and Judah remarked, "Dey wook wike pah-corn!"

I guess they do look a little like popcorn, old maids and all, lol.

Ahhh...signs of Spring in the air! It all kind of makes me want to run across lush green hills, arms outstretched, singing, "The hills are alive....with the sound of music..."

But...I'll refrain.

Although I might do a happy dance. And maybe click my heels together just for fun.

WooHOO! Spring is on the way!

Wow! So much in this post!
1) I think you need to come to IN and teach me to knit. Just a suggestion for my long, lost sister. :0)

2) Great Goodwill finds - I LOVE that lamp! And the buttons were a steal.

3) Yes, gotta love those first blooms. We don't have any yet.:0(
But, we are getting buds. :0)

4) Are your trees ornamental - or do you actually get fruit off of them?

Love your updates. They always bring a smile to my face!

XO,
Pam

Becky, this post makes me all sorts of happy. I lurve your goodwill hunting finds, and your afgans are beautiful! I think i need to fly down for a crocheting tutorial! Lurve the pictures of sweet Judah and his pah-corn trees. Great imagination. And...somebody's been to Joann's for some fat quarters. Jealous. ;)
What kind of quilt are you gonna make?

Your Grandma always said the cherry blossoms on our pie cherry tree looked like popcorn...

You are SO envied with that almond tree! You have a pomegranate, too, right?

Spring is coming to the PNW too, but today we had a few snowflakes just to show us that winter is still officially here. Saturday was a gorgeous 65 degrees.

Love Judah's photo with his discovery! Little snip!

I heard birds singing today! I opened windows today (briefly- temp dropped as rain rolled in).

*SIGH* Could spring be anymore welcome this year?! LOL!

Great finds! Love the lamp. Also, nice blankets! Wish I had one for a gal at Bible study! You selling any? I might have to make one. From fabric, of course! My knitting and crocheting skills don't extend past the nifty knitter! :) Gorgeous blooms! I would love to have an almond! Also, an olive--can you grow them there? They can live 1000 years. Cute Judah with the paw-corn!
